Bio
I was born and raised in Defiance, Iowa. Maybe personifying my hometown’s name a little too much, I tend to throw caution to the wind in my creative endeavors. My self-published book of poetry titled “The Sweet Nothings” is my first officially published work, although I have been cranking out poetry on Instagram with my @yesterdayinpoetry account – a project where I posted a daily poem for the better part of three years. In addition to poetry, I plays bass in the punk rock band Hold For Swank, and we've seen some regional success with three full length albums. Even had it in the background of some reality TV!
When I'm not writing or jumping on stage, I designs customer loyalty programs. My hobbies include cooking, gardening, woodworking, visiting national parks (27 so far!), learning about geology and geography, studying other cultures, listening to music, and occasionally staring into the void.
After graduating from Buena Vista University, I moved to Des Moines where I've lived for just over 20 years with my wife Kirstin.
